Confession: I’m a recovering high achiever.
In the past, I filled my calendar.
Bragged about accomplishing more by
8 am than others got done all day.
Identified with…
↳ High-achiever
↳ High-performer
↳ Peak performer
↳ Peak potential
Adrenaline and accomplishment fueled my days.
I loved it until… I realized it wasn’t me.
I’d simply listened to the megaphone of personal development blaring…
↳ Obsession is your obligation
↳ Peak performance is duty
↳ Unlock your potential
No matter what I achieved it was never enough.
There was always another milestone.
Another level.
“Paul, don’t you believe in being all we can be?”
Yes!
All we can BE.
All we can sustain and live in.
Consistent, sustainable growth.
Over the next 21 posts, we’ll explore the Ancient Achiever.
A return to BEing over DOing.
This is not a rallying call against the high-achievement movement.
That’s a group BEing them.
We need the peak performers.
However…
If peak performance feels heavy
If pushing to the limit is limiting you
If you constantly compare and hear “less than”
If you are more purpose than productivity
If you are more intent than obsessed
If you are more flow than force
Then we’ll join the ancient with the modern to integrate wisdom with achievement.
Tomorrow we’ll begin with higher-being over high-achieving
